The top five climbs of Sardinia

Many climbs, whether short and punchy or long and steady — smooth or steep. You can play with adjectives, but one thing is sure: it's hard to find flat roads in Sardinia.

Like many islands, especially in the Mediterranean, Sardinia feels like a world of its own, with a wide variety of landscapes. The differences extend to language, food, culture, and — of course — cycling. If you're addicted to climbing, we’ve put together our top five climbs in Sardinia. They’re not necessarily the hardest, but they’re certainly the longest and most scenic. Let’s get started:

1. Talana climb (Croce Boi pass): the queen of Sardinian climbs

Length 12.7 km
Avg. gradient 7.4%
Total ascent 941 m (154–1094 m)

This spectacular sea-view climb is featured in our Epic Sardinia 25 tour.

2. Monte Albo from Lula: easy and beautiful

Length 14.4 km
Avg. gradient 2.5%
Total ascent 354 m (494–824 m)

Stunning views make it impossible to go fast, even on an easy slope. This climb is included in our Ultimate Sardinia tour.

3. Passo di Genna Silana (north side): glorious views across the Gennargentu National Park

Length 17.4 km
Avg. gradient 3%
Total ascent 703 m (5–1017 m)

This is one of those climbs you feel sad to leave behind. Featured in our Ultimate Sardinia tour.

4. Passo Bidderdì from Monte Cidro: the coastal mountain climb

Length 7.8 km
Avg. gradient 5.4%
Total ascent 424 m (38–462 m)

A low mountain pass at just 462 m, but with sweeping views and a nicely progressive slope. Featured in our Epic Sardinia Classic tour.

5. Valico di Monte Santa Vittoria via Esterzili: for hard-core climbers

Length 8.3 km
Avg. gradient 8.7%
Total ascent 722 m (450–1172 m)

No longer featured in our tours—retired after too many blasphemies and colorful curses from our guests. Beautiful, but painfully so.
